GAMMATALK + SPOT SHOW: ALPHABET BY VISCUM ALBUM
Exhibition presentation and launch of limited edition of artistic book project.
The name of the Viscum album project and group refers to the parasitic plant which grows in the crowns or on the trunks of broad-leaved trees.
Every individual performance of this project can be seen as a set of instructions, which can be repeated anywhere and by anyone. The concept of the exhibition or a one-day event of the same name is seen as one of a series of products – based on the instructions in a form of an alphabetical album, it can be performed and implemented again, at different places, under different conditions.
Five people were involved in the project and its research, all of which marked the parallel between the two geographically remote places - the inaccessible island resulting from the flooding of the riparian forest and the Mušov village in the Czech Republic, and the surroundings of the Temple of Olympian Zeus in Athens, Greece, which is also inaccessible at night. These two places share the present perception of the “cultural ruins”, which lie at both of them.
In case of both of these places, an important role was assigned to the memories of one of the research participants. This conceptual artist and performer experienced one of his first jobs within an archeological team in Mušov.
Supported by Endowment Fund of Palacký University Olomouc.
